The company maintains the Veracel project in Bahia State, a joint venture with the Swedish/Finnish group Stora Enso. The plant, opened in 2005, produces about 1.1 million tons of bleached pulp per year. Transport is almost entirely by ship from the terminal in Belmonte (60 km from the plant) to Portocel, in Espírito Santo State. Veracel has 91,429 hectares of eucalyptus forests and 114,625 hectares of protected reserve.
The Veracel unit employs 2,000 people directly and 8,000 indirectly. The project includes a broad professional training program to use the maximum number of local people. The plant use latest-generation equipment, process control and environmental protection systems.
