November 6, 2014 - Fibria elected Sustainable Company of the Year

Fabio Barbosa, President of Abril, presents the award to Marcelo Castelli, Fibria's CEOSão Paulo (SP) - Yesterday, Fibria received the Sustainable Company of the Year Award sponsored by the Exame Sustainability Guide 2014. Fibria, a 100% Brazilian company and the world's largest eucalyptus pulp producer, also figured among the most sustainable companies in the Pulp and Paper industry. According to Fibria CEO Marcelo Castelli, the award, which was received on the company’s fifth anniversary, represents recognition of teamwork that combines environmental preservation, social inclusion, improvements in quality of life and shared value creation.

“Since its creation in 2009, Fibria has embraced the mission of developing forestry activities as a renewable and sustainable source of life and has worked to create value in a way that is responsible, shared and inclusive,” said Castelli at the awards ceremony held yesterday in São Paulo. “Our history is guided by sustainability, which begins with the planting of eucalyptus seedlings and forest stewardship and evolves to encompass relations with local communities, support for social and environmental projects that combine preservation with job and income creation, as well transparent and continuous dialogue," he added.

The Exame Sustainability Guide was created by Exame magazine in 2000 to recognize best practices in corporate responsibility in Brazil. Since 2007, the methodology used to assess companies that voluntarily decide to complete the survey has been developed by the Center for Sustainability Studies of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (GVces), which is a national and international reference in the field.

In 2014, 228 companies participated in the Exame Sustainability Guide. The process begins in mid-May, when the companies register to complete the survey, and ends in November, when the list of winners is announced for each industry, topic, including the Sustainable Company of the Year Award.
