06.18.10 - Fibria inaugurates an Odor Perception Network at Três Lagoas
New communication channel will facilitate monitoring of changes in air quality.
Três Lagoas – This Saturday, Fibria is inaugurating an Odor Perception Network (RPO) at Papillon Eventos, situated at KM 1 of the BR 262 highway, in Três Lagoas. During the event, the General Manager of the Três Lagoas Unit, Renato Ottoni, will give an institutional presentation and Fibria’s Environment and Sustainability team, represented by Umberto Caldeira Cinque and Mayza Carla, will demonstrate the procedures developed for the processes of environmental monitoring in the industry.
One of the highlights of the event will be the launching of a new communication channel for the RPO, a toll-free 0800 number that, as from Saturday, will take calls from the community in Três Lagoas whenever there is a sign of alteration in the air quality. “We want to encourage the community’s participation in monitoring the question of odor, and this 0800 number is just one more tool that Fibria is making available to stimulate dialogue between the parties involved”, Mr. Ottoni said.
Set up in January 2010, the RPO brings together 77 volunteers from the local community who have been trained to record and pass on to the company information their perception of any odors given off by the industrial process. The network comprises residents from different parts of the town who, following a period of training and familiarization with the odors that may be exuded by the mill, will contact Fibria if they perceive any alteration in the quality of the air.
Ecological Agents
The Ecological Agents have been active in Três Lagoas since July 2007. They are volunteers who represent the community, working in partnership with Fibria in developing activities that help to improve the quality of life in the municipality. The Ecological Agents represent the company’s principal channel for contact with the community, to discuss matters of mutual interest and develop community projects.
