07.16.10 - Fibria broadens its environmental management and focuses on suppliers

The company’s production chain will be included within its policy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

São Paulo – In São Paulo, this Friday, Fibria will hold the first of a series of events directed at the members of its pulp production chain. A total of 76 of the company’s principal suppliers will be participating in theoretical and practical activities aimed at aligning them with the principles of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Supply Chain.

The CDP is an international non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide information and guide investors who want to understand the risks and opportunities associated with climate chance, when taking decisions on their investment portfolios. Acting on behalf of 534 institutional investors, every year the entity invites over 3,000 listed companies to voluntarily provide information regarding their climate governance.

This is to announce that Fibria has become the world’s first forest sector company to engage in the CDP Supply Chain. In other words, the company is extending its commitment to the issue of climate change throughout its entire production chain. So now, in addition to reporting its own climate governance practices to the entity, the company will now include an assessment of the risks, actions and opportunities relating to the practices of its partners in the pulp business.

Fibria has participated in the CDP Investors since 2009, and prior to that it was engaged through the companies Aracruz and Votorantim Celulose e Papel, until they merged to form the new company. According to Fibria’s latest Sustainability Report, for every ton of CO2 equivalent emitted, ten tons are sequestered, which is a ratio that is very favorable to the environment.
