October 09, 2015 - Fibria presents expansion project of Três Lagoas unit (MS) during ABTCP event

ABTCP elected Fibria as the Distinguished Company in the Sector in 2015 in the “Market Pulp Producer” and “Forest Development” categories

São Paulo, October 2015. Fibria, a Brazilian forestry company and the world’s leading eucalyptus pulp producer, marks its presence at the 48th Pulp and Paper International Congress, the premier industry event in Latin America, organized by the Brazilian Pulp and Paper Technical Association (ABTCP), between October 6th and 8th at the Transamérica Expo Center in São Paulo.

At the company’s booth, visitors can learn about the Horizonte 2 Project, which involves expansion of the company’s Três Lagoas unit in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The new production line will have annual pulp production capacity of 1.75 million tons. Added to the existing operational line, the Mato Grosso do Sul plant will have total pulp production capacity of 3.05 million tons a year, making it one of the largest eucalyptus pulp production units in the world. With this, Fibria’s total annual pulp production capacity, considering all its units, will increase from the current 5.3 million tons to over 7 million tons. The new industrial line is scheduled for startup in the fourth quarter of 2017.

“Expansion of the Três Lagoas unit is a milestone in the company’s history, which restarts Fibria’s vocation for growth. And the ABTCP fair is an excellent opportunity to showcase the Horizonte 2 Project to our chain of clients, partners and suppliers,” says Fibria CEO Marcelo Castelli.

One of the biggest private investments in Brazil, focused on exports, the Horizonte 2 Project is worth US$2.5 billion. The project is expected to create 40,000 direct and indirect jobs over the two years of construction. At the height of construction, it will employ around 10,000 workers. When the new pulp line goes operational, it will employ 3,000 direct and indirect workers.

To execute the Horizonte 2 Project, Fibria has already contracted important service packages: infrastructure, construction management, wood chip yard, fiber line, drying machine, recovery boiler, evaporation, causticizing, lime kiln, valves, turbogenerators and the entire power transmission and distribution system. The company has already signed contracts for the Water Treatment Stations, Chemical Plant, Temporary Facilities and Management of the Administrative Services Center.

“We are very proud to present, at the ABTCP fair, the competitive and sustainability differentials of the Horizonte 2 Project. The new industrial complex will have modern production processes and the plant will generate all the energy consumed by it, using biomass resulting from the production process. Efficient use of water resources at the future plant and access to wood supply within an average radius of just 95 kilometers (about 60 miles) are other highlights of the Três Lagoas expansion project,” says Paulo Silveira, Executive Officer of Industry and Engineering at Fibria, and member of the Executive Board of ABTCP.
