September 16, 2015 - Fibria concludes fresh contracting of industrial packages and advances the expansion project at the Três Lagoas unit

The projects contracted include water treatment stations, chemical plant, construction of temporary facilities and management of the construction project administrative services center

São Paulo, September 16, 2015. Fibria, a Brazilian forestry company and the world’s leading eucalyptus pulp producer, advanced another step in the Horizonte 2 Project, which will expand production capacity at its Três Lagoas Unit located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, and concluded the contracting of new service and equipment packages.

The company signed a contract with the company Veolia for the Water Station Package, which provides for the construction of three units: the first involves the production of demineralized water for the recovery boiler; the second, the treatment of raw water to convert it into treated industrial water, and the third involves treatment of wastewater. Veolia will also supply a condensate polisher unit and a seal water production unit.

The Chemical Plant Package was contracted from AkzoNobel, which will build a 60-ton capacity chlorine dioxide plant and tanks to store chemical products, all of which are used in the pulp bleaching process.

The Temporary Facilities Package, contracted from Fortes Engenharia, involves the construction of buildings exclusively for use during the works and include a social center, restaurant, medical clinic, offices and construction sites.

Fibria contracted the Administrative Services Center Management Package from the company Meta Gerencial Projetos e Obras, which will manage the cleaning, accommodation, transport, security, restaurant and worksite management services, among others.

The new production line at the Três Lagoas Unit will increase its pulp production capacity by 1.75 million tons/year to reach 3.05 million tons/year. With this expansion, scheduled to go operational in the fourth quarter of 2017, Fibria’s total pulp production capacity, considering all of its units, will increase from the current 5.3 million tons to more than 7 million tons. Fibria’s investment in the expansion of the Três Lagoas Unit is equivalent to around US$ 2.5 billion.

The Três Lagoas Unit is energy self-sufficient. All the energy consumed is generated by the plant itself. The Horizonte 2 Project not only generates and consumes its own energy, but will also generate surplus power of 120 MWh, which will contribute to Brazil’s energy matrix.

The Horizonte 2 Project is expected to create 40,000 direct and indirect jobs over the two years of its construction. At the height of construction, the project will employ around 10,000 workers. Once commissioned, Fibria’s new pulp line will employ 3,000 direct and indirect workers.

Construction of the Horizonte 2 Project will engage around 60 local suppliers. During construction, Fibria will administer 500,000 hours of training in Forestry operations and another 390,000 hours of training in Industrial operations, which includes preparing both in-house and third-party teams.
